Darkhorse Universal TIR Tool Kit


Newton, Wisconsin based Darkhorse Motor Company has become internationally recognized down the years for its branded parts - not least as a primary 'go-to' for purpose-built crankshafts.
Knowing the importance of precision and accuracy, especially the kind of accurate measurements that are so important to crankshafts in their installed state, has given Darkhorse extraordinary expertise and experience when it comes to "getting it right."
This has been the primary reason why it has developed this universal TIR tool kit as an additional level and stage over and above the original run-out tool that Darkhorse developed for sprocket shafts only.


“We sat down with our engineers and service technicians plotting out all the different configurations to see if we could achieve this feat, and our team hit it out of the park!” said John Dahmer, GM and owner of Darkhorse Motor Company.  
“We wanted to manufacture a tool that every technician could have in his own personal toolbox, which led us to design this tool that covers every Big Twin model of Harley-Davidson dating back over 50 years. 

 




"This universal TIR tool kit measures everything from the 70s Shovels, through the Evolution and Twin Cam platforms to late model M-8s in one small tool pouch that easily fits within a toolbox drawer, covering every Big Twin model of Harley-Davidson dating back over 50 years.
"It measures total indicated run-out on either the pinion shaft or the sprocket shaft with the unique capability to accurately determine what the actual run-out the compensator operates with on '07 and later models. There are five small cylindrical magnets that attach into the grooves of the fine splines and allow the indicator to also measure if the splines are cut off-center. This critical measurement will also tell a lot about premature compensator wear or noise in the primary system.
"By installing the supplied indicator in the corresponding laser-marked hole, and attaching it to either the camplate surface or inner primary, you are measuring TIR quickly and accurately! Use the supplied thumbscrew and rotate the tool arm to 'touch off' on the corresponding shaft, this makes an almost impossible job a lot easier with no need for two or three single purpose bulky and expensive tools everyone borrows throughout the shop."
