2021 King Of The Baggers

Harley Takes a One-Two at Second King Of The Baggers Round

If Kyle Wyman felt under any pressure going into round two of the 2021 King Of The Baggers 3-race series, it didn't show as he managed to channel it into giving the H-D Screamin' Eagle factory team its first series win after his second place to the S&S/Tyler O'Hara Indian Challenger at Road Atlanta.

Racing at Road America (Plymouth, Wisconsin - just up the road from Milwaukee) on June 13th, Wyman started from pole and led all the way to the checkered flag; the Motor Company swept the podium with new recruit Travis Wyman second and Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson's Hayden Gillim finishing third.
The championship leader coming into the Road America weekend was Mission Foods S&S Cycle Indian Challenger's Tyler O'Hara, but the Californian's Indian suffered a mechanical problem while trailing Kyle Wyman.

"It's amazing," Wyman said. "There was (Harley-Davidson's) Bill Davidson congratulating me in victory lane, and the who's-who of the Motor Company was here to see it. I think they gave away 200 tickets to employees this weekend. There were people that came out specifically just to watch this race - so to get it done here in Harley's backyard is just an incredible feeling.
"Those guys deserve it. They work so hard. Harley has put a pretty large number of people on this project full-time. They were told, look, this is racing. You don't punch out at 5 o'clock. Those guys are putting in the hours and putting in the extra time, and it's all paying off. It's amazing also to have my brother finish second."
It wasn't a day of unalloyed joy for Wyman though - later that same day he broke his left arm, crashing while running seventh in the 12-lap MotoAmerica HONOS Supersport Race Two, going into the chicane on his Panera Bread KWR Ducati Panigale V4 R. Wyman was placed eighth in the Supersport championship table for the season so far before crashing and will likely now need surgery.

Following this second round of the three-race KOTB series, Wyman leads the standings, ahead of Vance & Hines' Hayden Gillim in second, and Frankie Garcia third on the Roland Sands Design Indian Challenger.
The next MotoAmerica race is June 25-27 at Ridge Motorsports Park in Shelton, Washington. The third and final round of the King Of The Baggers series will take place July 9-11 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

News Briefs

RawHyde Adventures has announced the opening of its new Zakar Overland Terrain Park and Event Center. Located in the heart of the Mojave Desert in California, Zakar will serve the powersports, over-landing and side-by-side industries as a venue for companies to host media events, product launches, corporate retreats, meetings, and more. PSB recently reported on Motorcycles of Manchester (MOMS) pursuing a similar venture in the Northeast, hoping to expand access to recreational opportunities for potential customers.

Yamaha's new Riding Feedback System (YRFS) has been designed to evaluate riding skills and provide the results in visual form as feedback for riders in order to help advance their skills. Introduced into the Yamaha Riding Academy (YRA) curriculum for this year in Japan, before an international roll-out, it uses a simple GPS-based logger device to acquire data for vehicle position and speed and then converts the values for acceleration, deceleration and cornering during the ride into visual form, which can be compared to photographs of a participant's body positioning while cornering.

Zero Motorcycles is to supply Viatec Inc. with electric powertrains for Viatec's line of SMARTPTO electrohydraulic systems. The 10-year agreement "aligns Zero Motorcycles' state-of-the-art engineering and production capabilities with Viatec's goal to be the industry standard for reliable vocational vehicle electrification."

Texas based Kandi America, a subsidiary of NASDAQ listed Kandi Technologies Group ("an international automotive and powersports manufacturer") has announced Kandi Powersports as a dedicated product division "to focus exclusively on bringing Kandi's unique combination of industry knowledge, cutting edge technologies and expertise across manufacturing and electric to the powersports market." First products will include electric ATVs and electric bikes and a selection of gas-powered models "to support Kandi dealers and keep them competitive while consumer demand for electric continues to grow." Kandi acquired vehicle and parts distributor SC Autosports in 2018.

Bikers Life

Bikers Life - 30 years in print and still going strong

Founded by Moreno Persello in 1990, Italian custom magazine publisher Editrice Custom says it is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Bikers Life, Italy's, and one of Europe's, leading custom lifestyle magazine.

Biker's Life was launched in 1991

With so many motorcycle magazines closing their print operations, it is great to be able to recognize the hallmark and to see that Moreno and his son Micke are celebrating in style with the launch of their third custom motorcycle magazine and their fourth magazine in total.
The new 'Café Special' will appear on newsstands in Italy this year, dedicated to Café Racers, Scramblers and Trackers.

New motorcycle magazine launches are a rare achievement these days - 'Café Special' goes on sale on Italian newsstands in 2021.

As reported last month, the popular annual Biker Fest, featuring the finals of the Italian Custom Bike Championship and a long-established AMD World Championship Affiliate event, has again been postponed from its traditional May date to September 16-19.
In 2020 the event pulled an estimated crowd of around 90,000 to the September date.

Müller

Smooth Operators

It is already 20 years now since former German Harley dealer Werner Müller unveiled his first patented clutch assist device - the Power Clutch - and in that time the company he founded has sold over 100,000 of them, worldwide.

Based near Ingolstadt in Bavaria, Germany, these days the business is operated by Werner's son Fabian Müller, a well-known custom bike builder as well as parts and accessory designer. The original 'Bowden' cable Power Clutch for mechanical clutch operation is still available, and the latest iteration is the Hydro Clutch - for Twin Cams and M-8 models with hydraulic clutches.
Hydro clutch for Twin Cams and M-8 models with hydraulic clutches

Müller says that the maintenance-free Hydro Clutch is producing up to a 35% reduction in lever effort of Twin Cams with the Harley hydraulic clutch and up to a staggering 45% reduction in clutch lever effort on M-8 models - Softails and Touring.
Now that Harley has dropped its hydraulic clutch (just too many problems with its design), both designs - Power Clutch and Hydro Clutch - are equally important opportunities for dealers and help turn every rider into a "Smooth Operator"!

"up to 45% less lever effort"

The Müller design produces "a clutch that still works - the plates separate perfectly. With some of the other designs we have tested, we have been seeing a loss of stroke when the plates don't operate smoothly, but with our designs, clutch operation is precise." The invisible/hidden install is described as simple and intuitive.

By improving the precision with which riders can control clutch operation, the Power Clutch and Hydro Clutch can improve the durability and service life of the clutch and the gears in the transmission. The improved sensitivity and feel therefore contribute to better handling and safety - especially in heavy traffic and urban/suburban riding conditions.

Lowering kit for M-8 with stepless height adjustment

Another Müller specialty is lowering kits. Werner Müller's first design was introduced some 30 years ago for EVO models and is still a strong seller. At the time it was said to have been the first ever height-adjustable lowering device for any Harley application, and was likely to have been the first adjustable lowering device for any motorcycle model.
Following that, the version he designed for Twin Cams went a stage further and allowed the height to still be adjusted even once installed - which really brought motorcycle height adjustment into its ergonomic sweet spot.

Marking another advance, for M-8 models, the Müller design is said to be the only lowering kit on the market with stepless height adjustment.
Müller lowering kits are 100% made in Germany and, as with its easy clutch devices, are backed by a lifetime warranty and designed to be durable and maintenance-free.
