AMD World Championship 2014

INTERMOT will see largest ever AMD World Championship audience witness v-twin market's premium showcase

The AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building has never been about numbers, it has always been about quality, about design and engineering, and about being a showcase for the rising talents and future trends of the custom motorcycle industry.

However, this year's 11th annual AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building is set to establish some truly impressive numbers.

The World Championship program has always sought to find ways to expose the creativity and craftsmanship of the custom motorcycle market to the largest possible audience of existing and potential riders.

Riders who are already sold on customization, riders who can be motivated into engaging with the custom industry as a result of seeing what it has to offer them, and consumers for whom the 'art of the possible' in custom motorcycle terms will be the driver that brings them into the two-wheel world.

By being staged at the world famous INTERMOT exhibition at Cologne, Germany, (the "Cologne Show") this year's AMD World Championship of Custom Bike Building is set to show unprecedented numbers of riders just how far the custom motorcycle market has come in the past 25 years.

INTERMOT regularly attracts between 200,000 and 250,000 visitors and is the world's leading international motorcycle industry show in terms of trade and high-mileage consumer visitors.

Being staged in Hall 10, the 'Custom Hall' in which the Cologne Custom Cup (an AMD World Championship program affiliate event) has been staged since 2008, the four day consumer attendance, and dedicated Media and Trade visitor day attendances, are likely to see the highest attendance that the AMD World Championship has ever secured, and in all probability the largest crowd to ever see a custom bike building competition, of any kind, anywhere.

At the time of writing the advance entry list had exceeded expectations for this first staging of the Championship at INTERMOT. With six weeks still to go, 55 builders have entered some 70 bikes, and as befits a truly international competition, these builders are drawn from 20 different countries - which also reinforces INTERMOT's reputation as the "most international" of industry shows.

Exhibitors in the BIG BIKE EUROPE zone so far include Motorcycle Storehouse, Motorsport Aftermarket Group (MAG), James Gaskets and Lauge Jensen.

This will be the 50th anniversary of the "Cologne Show" and it sees further development of its specialty services for the industry, with the B2B exhibit zone and Dealer Lounge in the dedicated business district (between Halls 4 and 5) and a trade visitor/invitee preview day (Wednesday October 1st) added to the Media Preview day (Tuesday September 30th) before the four public days from Thursday October 2nd to Sunday October 5th.

The AMD World Championship will end with the awards ceremony at 5:00 pm on Sunday October 5th; set-up day is Monday September 29th, and AMD stages its popular 'International Night' industry reception in association with sister magazine International dealer News at 18:30 hrs on Wednesday October 1st.

Classes include the acclaimed FreeStyle class from which the AMD World Champion is traditionally chosen; the Retro Mod class for pre-1984 platforms; the Modified Harley-Davidson class; the 'metric' and all-platform Street Performance class which showcases customisation work where "street-able" performance is the builder's hallmark; and new for this 11th annual World Championship, we celebrate the importance of the bikes that paved the way for the SuperBike revolution with the Cafe Racer Class.

Victory Motorcycles

Magnum launched by Victory

VICTORY has begun releasing details of its 2015 motorcycle line-up with the launch of a new model – the Magnum.

The motorcycle manufacturing subsidiary of Polaris Industries is following aftermarket trends in the Bagger market with the launch of its Magnum as the new model features a 21in front wheel and a rear end that is 1in lower than other Touring models in the company’s range. This change also provides a 25.7in seat height, claimed to be the lowest in its class.

Further evidence of following consumer led trends can be seen with the inclusion in the custom painted fairing of six speakers, capable of delivering a claimed 100 watts of sound from the bike’s high-performance audio system. Victory is also offering a set of accessory saddlebag audio (as a separately available option) to complement the fairing speakers.
Taking the custom idea to its natural extreme, Victory is equipping the Magnum with a full range of color-matched parts. The rear fender closeouts, saddlebag hinges, dash and radiator shroud are all painted to match the rest of the bike’s bodywork.
As with other motorcycles in the Victory range, the Magnum is powered by the Freedom 106/6 package 106ci air-cooled V-twin motor and six-speed overdrive transmission.

Indian Motorcycle

Indian Motorcycle introduces two new models

INDIAN Motorcycle has launched the all-new Indian Roadmaster and Scout models as it continues to expand the line-up of motorcycles for 2015.
Originally produced from ‘47-‘53, the Indian Roadmaster has been reintroduced to the Indian range as a premium touring model.

“It is truly a privilege and an honor for our team to be a part of motorcycling history in designing and reintroducing the Roadmaster, which has such a legendary reputation as the king of luxury touring bikes,” said Steve Menneto, VP of Indian Motorcycle. “The heritage, quality, craftsmanship, performance and standard features on this bike are simply unmatched in the luxury touring segment.”
The 2015 Indian Roadmaster has been designed to be capable of two-up touring with expansive, easy-access storage for extended rides in virtually any weather condition. The integrated and weatherproof storage has a capacity of nearly 38 gallons spread across dual hard saddlebags that have a quick-release capability and a removable carpet-lined trunk.

Rider and passenger comfort is catered for by the power adjust Horizon windscreen, leather heated seats with individual controls and high/low settings, adjustable airflow lower fairings that also feature additional easy-access storage, heated grips featuring 10 temperature settings and adjustable passenger floorboards, while electronics on the Roadmaster include a tire pressure monitoring system, cruise control and LED lighting. The integrated infotainment system offers AM/FM/WB, optional XM and features communication, navigation, media device, telephone and Pandora integration, and there is Bluetooth capability for hands-free multi-device connectivity.
Like other motorcycles in the Indian range, the Roadmaster is powered by the Thunder Stroke 111 engine, a 49-degree, air-cooled V-twin, mated to a six-speed overdrive transmission.
Joining the Roadmaster in the 2015 Indian Motorcycle line-up is the new Scout.
Claimed to be the lightest machine in its class with a wet weight of 558lb, the 2015 Indian Scout is powered by an all-new proprietary liquid-cooled 69"/100hp v-twin. Created from a clean sheet design, it features a chassis design that is made up of a lightweight rigid cast aluminum frame coupled with a low 25.3in seat height.

“Over the course of 30 years of countless innovations, racing wins, world records and industry firsts, the Scout earned its reputation as a versatile, multi-faceted bike that appealed to just about every rider and riding style,” said Steve Menneto. “Our designers and engineers have taken that heritage and those characteristics and fused it into the 2015 Indian Scout.”

AHEAD of the launch of its full 2015 model year range, Harley-Davidson has announced the return of the Road Glide to the company’s motorcycle line-up with the introduction of the Road Glide and Road Glide Special for the new model year.

"The Road Glide has always had an incredibly passionate following, which is why its return to the model line-up is exciting for our customers and our company," said Matt Levatich, President and COO of Harley-Davidson Motor Company. "With Project Rushmore technology, intuitive features and great new styling, we're delivering an improved ride for the Road Glide faithful and the many others looking for more cool Project Rushmore motorcycle options."

A Twin Cam 103ci V-twin engine powers the Touring bike, which features One-Touch hard saddlebags, cruise control, easy-to-read gauges, adjustable air-ride rear suspension and new ergonomic hand controls.
For the Road Glide Special, the Factory has added the premium Boom! Box 6.5GT infotainment system with touch screen and GPS navigation, Reflex linked brakes with ABS and hand-adjustable low-profile rear suspension. In addition the inner fairing is also painted and features hand-applied pinstriping.
