PSB has reported that industry leaders have given high praise to a bipartisan group of lawmakers who reintroduced legislation to fully fund the Recreational Trails Program. A new federal bill that supports off-highway recreation will ensure full funding will directly benefit powersports and outdoor enthusiasts. The MIC, ROHVA and SVIA have all applauded a bill that would ensure that RTP funding reflects the amount of fuel taxes that off-highway vehicle enthusiasts pay at the pump. Though OHV users contribute an estimated $281m annually in fuel taxes, the program is currently funded at approximately $84m per year. The new legislation seeks to close that gap and better align RTP funding with user contributions; www.mic.org
In what is being widely regarded as a counterintuitive decision (an absurd decision in fact), The X Games has banned electric motorcycles. That they give their riders an unfair advantage over internal combustion bikes. So, apparently in the interests of "maintaining a level playing field" their solution to progress and improvement? Ban EVs. Way-to-go Luddites.
