The Bagger Racing League (BRL) brought the thunder of V-twin engines to 'America's Heartland' for Rounds 3 and 4 of the Drag Specialties "Battle of the Baggers" presented by Memphis Shades on May 24 & 25.

Fans filled the stands, soaking in the raw power, intense competition, and vibrant energy that define this all-American motorsport. The weekend delivered heart-pounding action, showcasing the growing popularity of bagger racing and its unique blend of performance and style.

Round 3 kicked off under perfect racing conditions - clear skies, 65°F, and a grippy track with no trace of moisture. The ideal setup fueled fierce battles, with returning teams and fresh contenders pushing their machines to the limit. The paddock buzzed with excitement, packed with fans, vendors, and the unmistakable roar of V-twin engines.

"The energy this weekend was unreal," said BRL founder Rob Buydos. "From the roaring crowds to the packed vendor village, the racing exceeded every expectation and showed why bagger racing is taking the motorsport world by storm."

Round 4 saw the Sunday racing go from 'Rain to Redemption'. It began with a challenge as overnight rain soaked the track, keeping racers on standby.

As the sun broke through and the track dried, the action exploded with intensity. Competitors charged hard, battling for critical championship points in a thrilling afternoon of racing that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

News Briefs

ACEM, the Brussels based lead motorcycle industry trade association for Europe, show sales in Europe continuing to rise in 2024. Registrations in Europe's five biggest markets - France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK - increased by 10.1% in 2024 (1,155,640 units), a sizeable increase from 2023. Europe's 'Big Five' account for some 80% of all European new motorcycle and scooter registrations. The 2024 results were Germany: 248,618 units (+16.3%); Spain: 229,685 units (+14.2%); Italy: 352,294 units (+10%); France: 214,049 units (+3.5%) and the UK: 110,994 units (+2.7%). However, a rush to pre-register unsold 2024 spec machines before new regulations came into force at the start of January, means that a substantial number of early '25 sales are showing up in late '24 registration data. This happens every five years or so in Europe as updated noise and emissions standards come into force; www.acem.eu

Daytona tourism officials have reported a significant dip in attendance dip for Bike Week 2025. PSB reports a local news outlet stating that attendance was down by as much as 24% vs. 2024. On Main Street, where the biggest crowds gather, the cell phone data suggested that there were 178,600 visitors at this year's Bike Week, with 289,300 repeat visitor stops. However, in 2024, there were 233,500 visitors and 382,400 repeat visits.

Polaris Inc. (NYSE: PII) has declared a regular quarterly cash dividend of $0.67 per share, payable on June 16, 2025, for shareholders of record at the close of business on June 2, 2025.

Vendors recognized in this year's annual Powersports Business 'Nifty 50' awards included Ciro, CruzTOOLS, DP Brakes, INNOVV, Klock Werks, Memphis Shades, Motion Pro, Regina Chain, TEXA and TwinPower.

PSB has reported that Canada's powersports industry association, Moto Canada, has seen a significant drop in first-quarter retail sales data for 15 of the top powersport brands across the industry for the first three months of 2025 (vs. Q1 2024). According to Moto Canada's Landon French, the impact of the ongoing trade battle, driven by tariffs first imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump and Canadian counter-tariffs, has hit motorcycle sales the hardest, down nearly 22% over 2024. Approx. 32% (45,000) of all motorcycles, scooters, all-terrain vehicles, and side-by-sides sold in Canada each year are manufactured in the U.S. In contrast, 4,000 motorcycles are manufactured in Canada and sold in the U.S; www.motocanada.com

The California Court of Appeal ruled on March 24 that the California Coastal Commission exceeded its authority prohibiting off-road vehicles from driving through Oceano Dunes on the state's Central Coast.

As at April 30, an initial data read says that the U.S. economy shrank at a 0.3% annual pace from January through March, the first drop in three years. First-quarter growth was slowed by a surge in imports as companies in the United States tried to bring in foreign goods before massive increases in import taxes were imposed. The Q1 drop reversed a 2.4% gain in Q4 of 2024; consumer spending also slowed sharply, to 1.8% growth from 4% in Q4; Q1 Federal government spending plunged 5.1%. Some analysts suggested that the 41% surge in imports - the fastest outside of COVID-19 economic disruptions since 1972 - is likely to reverse in the Q2, removing a weight on GDP with April-June growth rebounding with a 2% gain.

Red River H-D, a family-owned dealership operating for 40 years in the Wichita Falls area, is now under new ownership, according to reporting by PSB. Sold by the Gilmore family, the new owners are Willy and Donna Sullivan, and they have renamed the store Copperhead H-D Wichita Falls. The Sullivans also own American Eagle H-D in Corinth, Texas and Diamondback H-D in Lawton/Fort Still, Oklahoma.

Custom Chrome Europe

Custom Chrome Europe - Thunderbike

Grolsheim, Germany based Custom Chrome Europe has added parts and accessories from Andreas Bergerforth's Thunderbike (Hamminkeln, Germany) - one of Europe's leading authorized Harley-Davidson dealers, a prolific customizer and, for good measure, former AMD World Champion Custom Bike Builder.

Derived from Thunderbike's in-house custom parts and accessory design and manufacturing program, while it is the complete customs and exceptional engineering that gets most of the attention, behind the successful project bikes and custom builds is a parts engineering capability that specialises in 'real-world' design and fit and road-grade quality and durability - "manufacturing approved parts components using high grade materials to achieve classic 'German engineering meets superior style' street legal parts."

M8 Softail Rear Steel Fenders

These premium raw steel fenders for Wide Frame M8 Softail Models are "designed for durability, style, and performance, this fender ensures a perfect fit while enhancing the overall look of the bike."

Versatile lighting options allow the rider to choose from various E-approved lighting setups, with optional load equalizer.

The complete installation kit includes fender mounting hardware, mud guard, and precision-milled 'dog-bone' washer for secure fastening; they are suitable and certified for two-person riding.

Thunderbike rear fenders feature versatile lighting options - choose from various E-approved lighting setups.

They are approved for 260 mm wide 18" tires. Modifications to the OEM seat are required, but Thunderbike recommends using one of its own fiberglass seat plates, or a choice from its design range of solo seats; the company also advises to check the clearance between the tire and fender and installing a shock travel limiter if needed.

They fit the following models: 18-19, 22-24 FXBR; 18-20, 22 FXBRS 114; 18, 22 FXBRS 114 ANX; 18-20 FLFB; 18-20, 22 FLFBS 114; 18, 22 FLFBS 114 ANX; 18, 22 FLFBS 114 ANV; 19-20 FXDRS 114; 21-22 FXBRS; 21, 23-24 FLFBS; 23 FLFBS ANV.

Barnett Clutches and Cables

Barnett Low Profile Lock-Up Pressure Plate Conversion Kit

This Barnett "Low Profile" Lock-up Pressure Plate Conversion Kit for 1998-17 Harley Davidson Big Twins (except 2013-17 narrow primary models w/assist and slip clutch) is specifically designed to fit under stock or aftermarket primary and derby covers and increases the capacity of your stock clutch while keeping lever effort to a minimum - even with big inch motors.

It's done by using stainless steel weighted arms that progressively increase pressure to the clutch as RPM's increase. Three different sets of six coil springs (light, medium, heavy) are included for multiple spring pressure options. The coil spring design also provides smoother shifting, and a more linear engagement compared to a diaphragm type spring.

Installation is bolt on with no modifications required. "Whether looking for a lighter clutch effort for a stock Big Twin or serious no-slip performance for a big inch motor, the Barnett Low Profile Lock-up Pressure Plate has got you covered - all in one attractive, precision machined unit." Available for cable actuated and hydraulic applications.

SAMCO Sport

Pan America - Silicone Radiator Coolant Hose Kit

The Harley-Davidson Pan America has many annoying, simple faults, but one involving one of the OEM hoses has the potential to ruin anyone's day. The problem is that there is not enough clearance between the head/manifold and the OEM rubber hose, and this can cause the hose to burn.

British high-tech silicone hose specialist SAMCO Sport has applied its vast experience to develop a hose kit that eliminates the problem by redesigning this part of the hose, allowing there to be the needed additional clearance.

With the addition of heat-reflective tape around the hose, and the silicone having a higher heat tolerance, this is a solution for a problem that most Pan America owners would likely not realise they had until it was too late.

Backed by a lifetime warranty, SAMCO silicone hoses deliver improved flow efficiency, increased durability for longer service life, extremely high burst pressures and improved reliability.

Available in a massive range of colors, SAMCO recommends that you match the quality of its hose with an additionally available stainless clamp kit. SAMCO products are available from distributors, including Parts Unlimited and Drag Specialties in the United States.

Tedd Cycle

Tedd Cycle Acquires Midwest Motorcycle Supply/Ultima

In what is being described as a "powerful union of two industry legends", Newburgh, NY based Tedd Cycle has acquired the all of the assets, names, trademarks and patents of Midwest Motorcycle Supply (formerly of Peverly, MO) including the well-known Ultima Products line of engines, transmissions, front ends and exhausts.

A longstanding cornerstone in the American motorcycle parts industry, Tedd Cycle's acquisition of Midwest, another long-established and storied vendor, merger brings together two iconic brands that have each played a vital role in shaping the custom and aftermarket motorcycle scene for decades.

Founded in the 1960s by industry pioneer Ted Doering, and is still privately owned, "Tedd Cycle became synonymous with top-quality replacement and custom parts for Harley-Davidson motorcycles under its V-Twin Manufacturing brand" Gary Steinhauer from Tedd Cycle, Inc.

"Meanwhile, Midwest Motorcycle Supply, home to the Ultima line, had built a reputation since the 1970s for innovative performance parts, engines, and drivetrains that have powered some of the boldest custom builds on the road.

"Both companies share a rich legacy of serving independent dealers, custom builders, and motorcycle shops across the U.S. and internationally. With deep roots in American manufacturing and distribution, Tedd Cycle and Midwest Motorcycle Supply have long operated with a shared commitment to supporting the backbone of the motorcycle community - the small business owners, customizers, performance specialists, garage builders, and passionate riders who keep the culture alive.

Having collapsed into bankruptcy liquidation in October 2024, the assets of failed Italian electric motorcycle manufacturer Energica have so far failed to find a buyer. At the auction at the Court in Medina a first-round base price of € 5.7m with a minimum bid of € 4.274m ended without bids on January 30, 2025. A second round with a reduced base price of € 4.275m, and minimum bid in the region of € 3.2m also ended without bids, on March 20, 2025. Piaggio saw total FY2024 (the period to December 31, 2024) group-wide consolidated sales revenue fall by -14.3%, with global PTW unit sales down by a massive 17.5% at 359,000 units (down from 436,300 units in 2023) generating net sales of € 1,298.3m. Asia Pacific region sales were hit hardest (-38.8%) as a result in a sharp decline in demand for premium products in China and Thailand. Demand for the Aprilia RS 457 helped push sales revenue up in India by +10.7%. In the scooter segment, Piaggio says it recaptured the leadership of the European market with a 21.4% share; its share of the North American market reached 28.1%.

The announcement last year that Honda, Mitsubishi and Nissan had arrived at the Memorandum of Understanding stage (MOU) in respect of a proposed merger came as a surprise to those outside the Japanese automotive industry. Well, just as much of a surprise was the February 2025 announcement that the three had fallen out of love and torn up those same plans. Honda says that "going forward, the three companies will collaborate within the framework of a strategic partnership aimed at the era of intelligence and electrified vehicles. This framework was established within the MOU signed on August 1 last year, striving to create new value and maximize the corporate value of each company." Okay then, remaining friends but not moving in together.

Feuling Racing

Wild Wind, Wild Hogs

Like so many teams, the Feuling Racing crew hit the road to kick off the 2025 BRL season full of all the optimism and excitement that always accompanies the start of any new race season (April 25-27, Chuckwalla Valley Raceway, California).

The excitement levels were raised for Ruben Xaus and the Feuling Flying Pig Crew as a result of the Friday practice sessions. Feuling's H-D Road Glide was running well, and Ruben was taking seconds off of his laps.

With the fastest lap time of the 2025 BRL Chuckwalla weekend at 1:51.1 - despite unfavorably windy, dust bowl-like conditions - Ruben put the Flying Pig on top of the box with a bittersweet #1 finish on the Saturday - even after an unfortunate 'get-off' in the GP Class. Ruben had such a large lead he was able to pick the bike up and still finish on top.

With continued abuse of the exhaust pipe contacting the pavement on the right side, the transmission case had cracked, which resulted in an untimely oil leak which, in turn, led to a crash.

A combination of logistical challenges, finding parts, dust storms and Ruben's upcoming BRL race in Europe led the crew to make the difficult decision to pack up, skip the Sunday Race 2 and "prepare for the road ahead," said Feuling Parts' Alex Gnaegy.

Those roads will take Feuling and the rest of the BRL grid to The Hastings Motorsport Park in Nebraska for Round 3 & 4 (May 24-25) and then The Gingerman Raceway at South Haven, Michigan (June 28-29) before Ontario, Canada (August 9-10) and the series finals at Willow Springs back in southern California (November 1-2).

Not forgetting the AMA Bagger Championship (an 'hors-séries' special) at the AMA Turn 14 Powersports presented Vintage Motorcycle Days (VMD) at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course (July 26).

As the final addition to the lineup, this windshield rounds out the collection with an option that offers taller riders the ultimate choice in air management and touring comfort.

"We save the tallest for last," joked Brian Klock, "not really - so many tall guys just want a low performance look and that is the biggest market driver, but many of those same guys want to tour and we need to fill that void."

News Briefs

Save-the-Date: Emboldened by what it sees as a successful start to the radically reimagined INTERMOT Expo at Cologne, Germany, organizer Koelnmesse (the Cologne Exhibition Centre) has moved to confirm its 2025 date - 4-7 December. The move from October to pre-Christmas was bold, but the change to an annual frequency was some 20 years too late. Some industry observers had been calling on the motorcycle industry trade association in Germany (IVM, the show owner) to take the event annual ever since EICMA (The 'Milan' Show) broke the established biennial cycle (and broke its agreements with the IVM) and itself became an annual expo; www.intermot-cologne.com

Long established British shock absorber manufacturer Hagon Products (founded in 1958) has announced that it is looking to add select additional importer/ distributors and dealers to its worldwide network; www.hagon-shocks.co.uk

It has emerged that there actually is someone at Harley-Davidson who thinks that selling off its Harley-Davidson Financial Services (HDFS) unit is a good idea. In an era in which recurring income is the holy grail of corporations in all sectors of global capitalism, Harley is looking at trousering a one-off $1bn bonus instead of keeping control of its retail finance brand relationships. For a business that currently has a declining customer base and market Cap of less than $3bn, selling off such a versatile prize asset is madness. A sign of desperation. A sign of short-term bonus and dividend culture driving a failed business plan. Kick sand in the face of your dealers why don’t you!

Reuters reports that according to Eurostat data, EU exports to USA increased by 22.4% in February compared to the year ago - marking the highest exports growth rate in 13 months and totalling € 51.8bn (~ $60bn); imports from the U.S. rose by 2.4% year-on-year to € 28.2bn (~$32bn). In February 2025, the EU as a whole posted a trade surplus of €23bn (~$26bn) compared to a deficit of €5.6bn (~$6bn) in January 2025. In 2024 EU exports to the U.S. had increased by 5.5% compared to a year earlier, while imports declined by 4.0%.

American credit card delinquencies have suddenly shot up and are now running at a 13 year high. Recent data published by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York show that the proportion of American credit card debt in serious delinquency - balances at least 90 days overdue - surged to 11% in Q4, 2024. That figure has risen by four percentage points over the past two years and is back to a level last seen in 2011, when unemployment was twice as high as it is today. The proportion of overdue debt for car purchase loans has also climbed, to a four-year high of 5%.

The famous (infamous!) high speed, 12.9-mile Nürburgring racetrack in Germany has finally moved to ban motorcycles. Always a scary and exhilarating bucket list item, it is a combination public road and race circuit. The ban means no more motorcycles on the public access 'tourist days' - limiting PTW riders to the few track days, club days and organized race school days that are permitted each year.

Do you remember the popular range of Koni shock absorbers? Yes, of course you do! Manufactured in The Netherlands, the original 1857 founded owner (A. de Koning) established Koni in 1928 and started making friction type shocks in 1932. The company started making motorcycle shock absorbers as Koni B.V. in 1967, and was bought by the American ITT Corporation in 1972. It owned and operated Koni until 2001 when the Australian Importer (Proven products Pty Ltd., NSW - Geoff and Louise Lowe) bought the technology and designs but not the brand name - turning the Koni motorcycle suspension product line into IKON Suspension. The iconic (!) IKON coil-over shock range is still made in Australia, and is distributed in USA by Roger Kirwin; ikonsuspensionusa.com

Mission AFT SuperTwins

Silver Dollar Short Track - Bauman Wins Again

Briar Bauman's (No. 3 RWR/Parts Plus/Latus Motors Harley-Davidson XG750R) 2025 Progressive American Flat Track season has quickly transformed from a feel-good story to an epic tale of domination as he stormed to a third consecutive convincing Mission AFT SuperTwins victory at the Silver Dollar Speedway Short Track at Chico California on May 3, 2025.

In the brave new world of production bike racing, one that was designed to end the dominance of a single manufacturer, the early signs that the H-D XG750R will fill the vacuum - and it isn't even a current production motorcycle.

That said, even amidst the transformation of the Harley-Davidson XG750R from a winless racebike to a week-in, week-out powerhouse, the feel-good story behind it remains: Bauman and wife, former AFT racer Shayna Texter-Bauman, made the announcement that they are expecting their first child earlier this morning at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, California.

That news didn't inspire any of his rivals to take it easy on him though, as title contender Dallas Daniels (No. 32 Estenson Racing Yamaha MT-07 DT) and the emerging James Ott (No. 19 G&G Racing Yamaha MT-07) took the early initiative in the premier-class Main.

With Davis Fisher (No. 67 Rackley Racing/Bob Lanphere's BMC Racing KTM 790 Duke) also on the charge, the end result was a Bauman win, with Fisher second, Daniels third, Jarod VanDerkooi (No. 20 Fastrack Racing/Wally Brown Racing KTM 790 Duke) fourth and James Ott fifth.

There were two Harleys in the top 10, three 790 Dukes, two Yamaha MT-07 riders and one each on the Royal Enfield 650 and the Suzuki GSX-8S.

In the AFT Singles presented by KICKER, Kage Tadman (No. 288 Old Oak Ranch/Roof Systems KTM 450 SX-F) became just the fourth rider in Singles history to win in his debut but became the first to back that up with a second successive win - in fact, it was the second consecutive event in which he swept the heat, the Helmet House Challenge, and the Main Event.

Trevor Brunner was second (No. 21 American Honda/Mission Foods CRF450R) with Australian Tom Drane third (No. 59 Estenson Racing Yamaha YZ450F), Canadian Hunter Bauer fourth (No. 24 Vinson Construction/Reel Medics Yamaha YZ450F) and Chase Saathoff fifth (No. 88 RWR/Parts Plus Honda CRF450R).

There were two KTM 450 SXF and the Husqvarna FC 450 KTM clone in the top 10, four on the Yamaha YZ450F riders and three on the Honda CRF450R.

Next Up: one more Short Track takes the 2025 series to the Lucas Oil Speedway at Wheatland, Missouri on June 7. After that the longer distances start-up with the two Lima Half Miles in Ohio at the end of June.

Then it's to Illinois for the DuQuoin Mile on July 5 before heading for the Black Hills of South Dakota for three Sturgis races - two Jack Pine Short Tracks on August 4 and 5 before wrapping the Rally up with a downtown TT on August 10.

Arctic Cat

Arctic Cat to Be Revived

Having acquired Arctic Cat for $247m in cash in 2017, Textron has sold the Minesota based snowmobile manufacturer, having closed down operations at its Thief River Falls facility earlier this year. In a statement included in its 2024/2025 Q1 fiscals, the sale is described as a 'Divestiture' and simply stated that - "we have completed the previously announced strategic review of the Powersports product line. On April 23, 2025, we closed on the sale of the Powersports business, including the Arctic Cat brand and its operations."

The buyer is an investment group and Brad Darling, a former Arctic Cat Vice President, and currently president and CEO at Canadian all-terrain vehicle (ATV) maker Argo. The terms of the deal are undisclosed.

Darling is quoted in a news release as stating: "Today is the start of a new chapter, one where Arctic Cat returns to the race, but with a powerful understanding: This race is never-ending, and our intent is to lead."

Having been closed by Textron in January, it is unclear at this time when the production lines will start up again, but a 2026 snowmobile lineup has already been confirmed. Darling will continue to lead Argo as he takes on duties at Arctic Cat. The companies will be operated separately, though there could be synergies between the two businesses, the release said.

Arctic Cat was founded by Edgar Hetteen in 1962, and the company has been operating in Thief River Falls since then, manufacturing snowmobiles, ATVs and side-by-sides.

Arctic Cat was part of Textron's specialized vehicles segment that includes other brands such as Tracker boats, E-Z-Go golf carts, Jacobsen lawn mowers and Cushman utility vehicles. Textron runs mostly aircraft and defense businesses.

After a 17-year tenure at Arctic Cat, Darling assumed the role of CEO and president of ARGO in 2016. Founded in 1967, ARGO is the worldwide leader for amphibious Xtreme Terrain Vehicles (XTVs).

The malaise surrounding Arctic Cat's fortunes is just one of the many corporate 'unwinds' that have been seen in the powersports industry in the past couple of years.

It was announced a few weeks ago that Indian Motorcycle owner Polaris Industries was to close the Idaho based Timbersled business that it had acquired in 2015.

The issues have also affected the Marine sector. BRP had recently announced its plans to exit its marine operations. The Canadian company has now announced that it is selling its Alumacraft assets to Bryton Marine Group, a family-owned company operating in Washington State, US, and British Columbia, Canada. Alumacraft is a manufacturer of aluminum fishing boats based in Saint Peter, Minnesota.

At the beginning of April 2025, BRP also announced that it had unloaded its Australia based Telwater aluminum boat brand - to Yamaha Motor Australia.

Update: Having announced an ambitious 2026 snowmobile lineup just days after the acquisition of Arctic Cat was confirmed, Brad Darling's investment group moved to confirm that it is to re-hire over 300 of the Arctic Cat workers that were laid off by Textron.
