Rockford Fosgate

Harley Audio Powered by Rockford Fosgate

The Tempe, Arizona, Patrick Industries owned Rockford Fosgate audio brand (NASDAQ: PATK) has announced a 300 watt subwoofer system, "purpose-built to deliver true on-road bass performance."
"Building on the popularity of Harley-Davidson Audio Powered by Rockford Fosgate sound systems, owners of 2023 and later CVO touring bikes with the Skyline infotainment units can now add subwoofers built to the exact specifications of their saddlebags.

"Engineered for all out-bass performance and superior flexibility, the subwoofer systems are designed to be quickly removed from the saddlebag. The X-Max and magnets of the subwoofer are designed for louder and stronger bass response."
Features include R-Tune, an integrated, proprietary motorcycle equalization function that is "designed to be stronger and louder to overcome road rumble and wind noise," a unique Motorcycle Dynamic EQ (M-DEQ) which works in tandem by adaptively changing EQ points in real time to ensure sound quality in all conditions and Bass Management Enhancement (BME), which continuously adapts to speed and road noise to maximize bass output.
Harley will offer several options to add bass to new or existing H-D Audio Powered by Rockford Fosgate stereo systems. For bikes equipped with a four-speaker audio system, either one or two 10-inch subwoofers may be added with the addition of the 600 watt secondary amplifier.

LeMans NVP Product Expo

Making Milwaukee Great Again

Words by Robin Bradley Pictures by Sara Viney

After many years at the Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center "between the lakes" in downtown Madison, Wisconsin, LeMans finally completed a move for its summer NVP Product Expo to the newly refurbished and extended Baird Center in Milwaukee. Some two years in the planning, the move brought Parts Unlimited and Drag Specialties' vendors, reps and dealers into an expanded space with no end of potential for future development.

Rallies aside, along with its Louisville, January event, the show is now firmly established as the most important business opportunity of the year for the V-twin sector. Although AIMExpo (Las Vegas, February 2025) is now making better thought-through efforts to attract custom parts and accessory action, 'Milwaukee' looks set to remain the primary V-twin nexus for many years to come.

It's no secret that market sentiment in this U.S. election year has been cautious in 2024. With continuing market softening, the general expectation as we head into the Fall, provided U.S. interest rates do start to follow the downward inflation trajectory in the coming months, then regardless of what happens at Harley-Davidson in the next six months, there is every reason to expect the coming season to be 'robust', if not exactly a 'tree puller'…

S&S Cycle: Following the positive reception received for its 2,220 cc 'ready-to-install' Black Edition 49-state MK136 Touring model engine earlier this year (for stock 2017-2023 oil cooled M-8 frames), S&S has now gone a stage further. Its new MK-Series B crankcases for M-8 Softail models gives it a basis for complete S&S M-8 Softail engines. "Designed specifically for the big power that the lighter and more agile M-8 Softail chassis are being asked to handle, these Softail-specific B series crankcases are engineered for the requirements of the latest generation of 'built' engines. They allow for the installation of larger bore kits, scrape more oil and offer improved reliability, all while still fitting into the stock Softail frame. These beefed-up cases feature a machined stock deck height, close-fitting oil scraper (stock is as cast) and large volume sump"; www.sscycle.com

Biltwell: "Harley did a great job baking this cake," said Bill Bryant of the mildly modified Softail it unveiled on its booth at Milwaukee, "we just put the icing on top!" Biltwell has an eclectic stable of motorcycles around its Temecula, California HQ, many of them dirt encrusted from the regular trips out into the fields and canyons nearby, vintage choppers or modern ADV bikes alike. This was a rare foray into the realm of a "shop bike" to showcase its own parts and accessories - you'll be able to see more of it/them in upcoming AMD editions, but own brand parts used include (but are not limited to) 10" Murdock risers in chrome; Tracker mid TBW bars, also chrome; an AlumiCore TBW grip set in black; Utility mirror teardrop perch mounts; M-8 Softail dash panel; Sanderson footpegs (polished); sissy bar Softail 18+; EXFIL-18 saddlebags and an EXFIL-3 2.0 bar bag; www.biltwellinc.com

Barnett Clutches: Sponsor of the all-new Barnett Clutches Super Street class in the Bagger Racing League (BRL) this year, recently featured products in AMD editions include its clutch spring conversion kit for 1998-17 Harley- Davidson Big Twins (except 2013-17 narrows). The kit includes a CNC precision-machined billet aluminum pressure plate and two sets of six heavy-duty coil springs. Designed to replace the stock diaphragm spring/pressure plate assembly, it provides smoother shifting and a more progressive linear clutch engagement; www.barnettclutches.com

Memphis Shades: 'Windshield of Choice' for many in the Bagger Racing League (BRL) series, whether it is airflow management or rider protection, ergonomics are at the heart of good windshield design and central to the Memphis philosophy. The company's main focus at Milwaukee was the new hand guards designed for 2024 Road Glides and Street Glides, and its new sizes of Speed Demon Sportshield. These hand guards offer exceptional protection against harsh weather conditions and road debris. The mounts are constructed from ecoated aluminum, while the guards themselves are made of durable Lucite, with rubber isolation for added durability. The Speed Demon Sportshield line has been expanded with the addition of three new sizes. Riders can now choose from a total of four sizes: 13", 15", 17" and 19" and three colorways. Model-specific Trigger-Lock mounting hardware allows for quick and easy removal of the windshield without the use of any tools; www.memphisshades.com

UltraCool/PC Racing: Developed by John 'JJ' Petchel, the patented and award-winning UltraCool 3.0 l oil cooler is a unique (and uniquely effective) dual fan-assisted, bolt-on cooling solution that has serious Bagger Racing chops - having been used by three-time BRL championship winner Shane Narbonne and the Trask Racing team, UltraCool made its debut this year as the official oil cooler of the Bagger Racing League Series (BRL); www.UltraCoolfl.com

American Motorcyclist Association (AMA)

AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days

Tens of thousands of motorcyclists from around the United States (from around the world in fact) gathered at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, July 26-28 for the 2024 Permco AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days presented by Yamaha to help the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) mark its 100th anniversary.

One of the largest single-weekend events in all of motorcycling, including North America's largest motorcycle swap meet, the annual event raises funds for the American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit that helps fund the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame's mission to promote and preserve the history and heritage of motorcycling in America.

"Every year, the AMA takes great pride in organizing AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days," said AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman, "and this year was even more special as the AMA celebrated its 100th anniversary. The weekend gives motorcyclists a chance to celebrate vintage bikes while spending time with family and friends, enjoying the freedom of two wheels with like-minded enthusiasts.

"This event wouldn't be possible without a long list of partners, supporters and volunteers. We appreciate them all, as well as everyone who attended the record-breaking event, which enables us to raise money for the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame."

The Grand Marshal for the event was AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer and six-time AMA National Champion Broc Glover - whose weekend duties included leading the Lap of History aboard a Ténéré 700, kindly provided by Yamaha as presenting sponsor of the event.

AMA Business Development Manager Michael Kula thanked the many companies who supported the event financially. "A huge thank you to Permco, who was our Title Sponsor for the second year in a row," Kula said. "We also appreciate Yamaha, who was the event's Presenting Sponsor."

Other sponsors included State Farm, Royal Enfield, B'laster, SSR Motorsports, Motozilli Powersports, Biltwell, Kenda Tire, American Motor Drome Company, Classic British Motorcycle Club, Iron Pony, STACYC, Mimi & Moto, Moto Motion, Skidmark Garage, Motorcycles and Coffee, Vintage Rides, Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club, Angel Boy by Boozy, Big Ear Inc., DC Dirt Camp, Legends and Heroes Moto Museum, Liquid Lab & Studio, Red Bull, Ryvid Inc., Smart Massage, Thrive Medical Center, National Cycle, Brakecrafters, Cometic Gasket and Klotz Lubricants.

Highlights included the VMD swap meet, which was bigger than ever this year with more than 825 vendor spaces all sold out.

AMA Chief Operating Officer James Holter expressed appreciation for Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, "the AMA's most important operational partner. The course offers one of the few facilities in the country able to accommodate the many activities that make AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days what it is. This wouldn't be possible without the professional and experienced team running the track."

News Briefs

We were saddened to hear of the death of Ken Boyko at the end of August. After his time at DG Performance Specialties in the 1970s and 80s he went on to be a co-founder of exhaust specialist Cobra Engineering (Yorba Linda, CA.) but his influence, contacts and friendships represented so much more. Ken was a major figure in the parts and accessories industry, on the West Coast, nationally and internationally - he and his astute marketing 'savvy' were a regular and familiar presence at shows in Europe as well as in the USA. He had a connoisseur-grade motorcycle collection and pioneered the development of the so-called 'Metric Custom' segment, commissioning pioneering Japanese platform customs that did much to shape the wider future of the custom motorcycle market. He played an important role in the development of the MIC Aftermarket Committee and was a tireless advocate for the motorcycle industry. Kudos to Ken for a 'life well lived', our appreciation for what he did four our industry, and our condolences to his family and friends.

Domestic U.S. industry magazine Powersports Business (PSB) has sparked consternation by shifting the date of its annual 'Accelerate' industry conference from its established November date at Atlanta, Georgia, to an already crowded first quarter. Its 2025 conference will be staged at Charlotte, NC, on January 19-22, 2025.

On the one hand, British paper Motorcycle News (MCN) has voted the H-D LiveWire S2 platform 'Del Mar' as its #1 Electric Motorcycle for 2024. On the other, the NHTSA in the United States has issued a recall that affects pretty much every S2 LiveWire model made. A potential electrical fault with a fuse means that the motor could stop working without notice. In the 21st century's 'Spend don't Mend' culture, an entire high voltage fuse unit assembly needs to be replaced.

Akrapovic has collaborated with Harley-Davidson Factory Racing. As an official partner, the Slovenian manufacturer is equipping the bikes of Kyle Wyman and James Rispoli with full lightweight titanium exhaust systems for their 2024 Road Glides. They first ran with the new pipes at the penultimate King Of The Baggers rounds at the COTA circuit (Austin, Tx.) in September.

Founded by Scott Maddux in 2004, the seven strong Smoky Mountain Motor Company group has merged with Crown Automotive (aka Crown Cars). The West NC and Eastern TN group has seven locations - Rocky Top H-D (Pigeon Forge, TN), Thunderhead H-D (Kodak TN), Smoky Mountain (Maryville, TN) and four regional retail-only outpost stores. Crown Automotive was founded by his wife Monet's uncle.

BRP has unveiled less than stellar results for the Q2 of its Fiscal 2025 with revenues down by -33.7%, a decrease of CAN $1,841.9m, "reflecting the company’s focus on reducing network inventory levels." Net income of $7.2m was -$331.5m, with EBITDA of $198.5m, down by -58.0% over the year-ago period. At $0.61, EPS was down by $2.60 per share. North American Powersports retail sales decreased by -18% compared to an industry that decreased in the high single digit %. BRP formally launched its Can-Am Pulse and Origin all-new, all-electric motorcycle lineup recently, marking a return for Can-Am as a motorcycle brand after a 1987 withdrawal, and its brand debut into electric powersports units.

KTM, Husqvarna, GasGas and MV Agusta parent company PIERER Mobility (Austria) continues to struggle with high levels of debt and softening sales in 2024. In response, it has announced the appointment of a co-CEO and that it will lay off another 200 employees in Q3, in addition to the 373 jobs that it has already shed in 2024. Viktor Sigl has been 'let go' as CFO PIERER Mobility AG and KTM AG, and the new co-CEO is from outside the motorcycle industry - Gottfried Neumeister, a former business partner of F1 legend Niki Lauda in his 'flyniki' airline business iteration (until the sale to Air Berlin).

Dealernews has announced that NPDA will stage its 'Dealer Connect' conference at Columbus, Ohio, on October 20-22, 2024.

Moto America King Of The Baggers

Indian Motorcycle Racing and Troy Herfoss Win at Circuit of the Americas

Indian Motorcycle's dominating era in AFT racing may have now ended, but it continues to compete hard in the Moto America King Of The Baggers series, and none more so than the rising superstar Troy Herfoss.

The Australian delivered a remarkable performance at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA - September 13-15, Austin, Tx., Rounds 15 & 16). Down 14 points heading into the weekend, the Indian Motorcycle factory rider delivered the results needed to make a final push for his first-career KOTB championship - piloting his No. 17 S&S Indian Challenger to his sixth win and sixth second-place finish of the season.

Herfoss started the weekend off hot, winning the Mission Foods Challenge, its $5,000 prize, and qualifying pole for the Double Header. Race 1 saw both Indian Motorcycle factory riders run in the front pack - as Herfoss took second and Tyler O’Hara successfully edged out Harley-Davidson factory rider Kyle Wyman for third, behind RevZilla Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson rider Rocco Landers, who took his first KOTB win.

Revzilla V&H/H-D rider Hayden Gillim brought it home fifth, with H-D factory rider James Rispoli sixth and SDI/Roland Sands Racing's Bobby Fong seventh. He was on another Indian Bagger and was followed home by no less than three Saddlemen Seats/H-D riders - Cory West, Travis Wyman and Jake Lewis in eighth, ninth and tenth respectively.

In Race 2, Herfoss showcased his racing prowess, leading all six laps, successfully capping off the weekend with his sixth KOTB victory. Kyle Wyman was second (H-D), with Rocco Landers third (Revzilla/V&H/H-D), Hayden Gillim was fourth for Revzilla/V&H/H-D, James Rispoli sixth for Harley.

Further kudos to the Saddlemen Seats racing efforts in bringing its three riders - Travis Wyman, Cory West and Jake Lewis - to the line in sixth, seventh and eighth, with Max Flinders on the M3/Lyndall Racing Brakes/Cowboy H-D Indian in ninth.

Indian Motorcycle - More Forged

Last month, AMD showed the first of three 'Scout Forged' named builder collaborations, we can now share the next bike reveal for Indian Motorcycle’s Scout Forged custom build series, based on the "all new" Indian Scout platform.

The first was designed by Roland Sands, and here we see two follow-ups by vintage specialists Brittney Olsen and Ronna Noren of Unique Custom Cycles in Sweden.

Roland took the inspiration for his build from legendary Indian Motorcycle road racer Ed Kretz. In Brittney's case, it was the iconic Cecelia Adams that gave her the inspiration for the build, and she says she hopes she "can be the ‘Cecelia Adams of the 21st century."

“You have these guys throughout the history of motorcycling, showing what the Scout can do. But then here’s something that doesn’t really get hit on. The historical foundation for my bike build are the early 40s, early 50s women riders that would ride Sport Scouts back in the day,” says Olsen.

Brittney Olsen's custom Sport Scout, received by Nikki Lane

Receiving this custom Sport Scout is country music singer and songwriter Nikki Lane.

In Ronna's case, his chopper-styled 2025 Scout was triggered by Stan Dishong, an early adopter of the chopper scene in the 50s and founder of Stan’s Cycle shop. Ronna’s custom Scout build "echoes elements of the early chopper scene with longer forms, narrow tank, taller bars and dual exhaust."

To reflect the era she is building for, Brittney has incorporated real 1946 to 1948 Indian Chief springs, shock and risers on a custom handbuilt girder front end with factory textured powder- coat to match the stock frame.

The modified stock Scout gas tank uses stock Springfield Chieftain tank panels to get the original Indian Sport Scout teardrop shape. "We kept the top and bottom tunnel ram of the stock Scout gas tanks to keep the stock fuel pump, air intake box and the stock Scout GPS panel that originally came stock."

There are custom underseat frame covers, custom made seat mounts, custom vintage Bates seat and rear fender pad, extended rear subfender, custom black paint job and custom lettering, striping and gold and silver leaf done by Jeremy Pederson.

Additional modifications include handbuilt struts for the rear end, custom license plate mount, factory mid-controls, longer custom brake line, custom stainless exhaust, custom front turn signals and stainless steel bars, custom gauge/counsel relocation and handbuilt rear subfender panels.

Indian Motorcycle says that this new, next evolution of Indian Scout with its new steel tube frame "delivers an approachable platform for customization, as the tank, fenders and subframe can be easily removed and replaced."

Ronna Noren's chopper style custom Scout interpretation was received by legendary heavy metal Swedish drummer Mikkey Dee.

Ronna Noren's chopper style custom Scout interpretation was received by legendary heavy metal Swedish drummer Mikkey Dee.

Frame mods included 33 degrees on the neck, 37 degrees on the fork and 4" stretch and a one-off custom narrowed upper frame. Built around a Trask Powerflow airfilter, the shock mounts on the swingarm have been moved back and 'Keeping it Swedish', there are 8" over Tolle Engineering fork legs and hydraulics and one-off billet triple trees with 4 degree rake.

The shocks are black anodized IMC/Fox units, and the wheels are Cerakote finished hubs and rims - 80/90-21" front, 180/55-18" rear - with stainless spokes. The brakes are legendary Swedish made ISR one-piece radials - 6-piston front, 4-piston rear - with ISR 320 mm full floating disc and ISR prototype billet adapter kit for Scout applications, and an IMC master cylinder.

Ronna shortened, narrowed and sectioned the stock Scout tank with a custom tunnel repositioning fuel pump - the Tolle Engineering pop-up fuel cap is a nice touch. The rear fender is custom-modified stock, with a modified custom fender at the front.

The seat has a one-off steel base plate and upholstery is by Silver Machine. The heavily modified stock handlebars have integrated risers and a one-off speedo housing. There are full custom one-off headers and mufflers in stainless steel, modified Scout pegs and controls. Custom paint and gloss black frame/swingarm is by Hakan Lindberg.

S&S Cycle

S&S Cycle - Additions from the Masters of 'Proven Performance'

SuperStreet Exhaust for M-8 Softails

The latest out of the S&S house of horsepower is an all-stainless steel classic 2-1 style version of its popular SuperStreet exhaust for the Softail platform. Combining a stainless header with stainless shields and muffler make for a great look without the punishment of melting boots (like most of the other stainless systems).

S&S doesn't build anything unless it makes power, and the SuperStreet does exactly that with an average of +15% gain in hp out of the M-8 Softail models, combining that with the perfect length and angle, clearing bags, passenger pegs and forwards. Warranty-friendly and 50 state legal, fitments include 2018-2023 Street Bob, Low Rider, Softail Slim, Fat Bob, Deluxe, Sport Glide and Heritage models (standard chassis). Saddlebag supports compatible.

It works with OEM and similar size saddlebags (like Heritage or Sport Glide models). There are full heat shields on both front and rear, headers are brushed stainless steel, and there is a stainless steel stepped header construction. An S&S engineered high-performance catalyst brings legal performance to the street, with computer aided design and precision-bending for class-leading ground clearance.

The exhaust also features a multi-faceted, machined end cap design, and oxygen sensor ports allow use of wide band or stock O2 sensors. A passenger peg bracket is included (for the Fat Boy, FXDR and Breakout versions) - all others use OE Heritage location).

Grand National Slip-On for 2024 H-D X500 Models

The all-new Harley-Davidson X500 is a unique build. It is a 500 cc motorcycle that takes its styling cues from the lines of the new Sportster and comes stock with adjustable front and rear suspension.

"This new model is sure to be a winner in the international market, but it still leaves one thing to be desired: that stock exhaust," says S&S. "Luckily, we have the solution. Made in raw brushed stainless and tucked tight against the bike, the Grand National slip-on muffler is a work of art. Adding to the sound is a removable dB reducer that allows a rider to tune the sound and performance of the exhaust to suit their style."

Twin Cam & M-8 Cam Chest Kits Without Cams

Delivering the "proven performance of the S&S cam chest kit while maintaining the freedom to use any cam you like for your Twin Cam or M-8 with this kit. The oil pump/cam plate is precision- machined from billet aluminum; passage plugs removable for servicing; independent scavenge sections for flywheel cavity and cam chest; debris screens in both scavenge pickups; magnet in cam chest side to help to stop debris from entering oil pump; 44% flow increase on supply side and 58% flow increase on scavenge; pressure relief valve is adjustable with unit installed in engine.

"S&S 'Quickee' pushrods and precision tappets that are hand-assembled to exacting tolerances with reduced valvetrain noise from start-up to shut-down, close tolerances for low leak down rates, fast pump-up and superior high rpm performance. The S&S M-8 model-specific tappet cuffs have a black hard anodized coating."

Manufactured in billet aluminum, they are stronger than stock material, eliminating distortion with improved tappet stability in high lift and high rpm situations. Install the oil control valve (310-1150) for oil-cooled M-8 models "to make your setup complete."

Grand National Slip-On for 2025 Indian Scouts

"The 2025 Indian Scout lineup brings a new level of technology and a completely upgraded 1,250 cc engine to the iconic model. A bike with such a rich racing history and a performance-based design deserves an equally performance-focused exhaust. This race-inspired exhaust produces the throaty V-twin sound that this bike deserves."

Featuring the removable dB reducer that S&S exhausts have become known for, allowing riders to tune their sound levels as they see fit, and a quality stainless steel baffle, this slip-on offers bolt-on horsepower, all while perfectly matching the factory header. Available in chrome and Guardian Black finish.

Mid-Mount Brake Pedal for M-8 Softails

Introducing the new S&S mid-mount brake pedal kit, engineered specifically for M-8 Softails for "unparalleled performance, clearance, and control," this kit is crafted with precision and rigorously tested for optimum functionality.

"Designed to work with OEM mid-mount foot controls or the Fat Bob header for mid-control conversions, our kit seamlessly adapts to your setup, making it a versatile choice for riders with varying preferences. CAD-designed from high-grade 6061-T6 billet aluminum, this piece is finished with a sleek black anodized coating that will not only last longer, but also offer smoother control of your ride."

Billet Fuel Rails

Say goodbye to cracked plastic OEM rails and hello to durability and performance. "Our billet fuel rails are the ultimate solution for riders seeking reliability and enhanced fuel delivery. Crafted from premium-grade 6061 aluminum and finished with a sleek black anodized coating, this fuel rail is built to last.

"Its direct replacement design ensures a seamless fit, eliminating worries about cracks and leaks commonly associated with plastic OEM rails. Plus, our upgraded fuel rail boasts an increased fuel capacity which dampens fuel pulses, resulting in smoother engine operation, improved performance and optimized fuel delivery for maximum power output. Black anodized finish."

M-8 Heavy-Duty Compensator Ramp

S&S says that its heavy-duty compensator ramp is "the next evolution in performance for your primary drive. Built to handle the demands of upgraded horsepower and torque, this compensator ramp is engineered with the highest quality materials and advanced manufacturing techniques. With durability at its core, this upgrade ensures long-lasting performance and peace of mind mile after mile."

It is a direct replacement for M-8 model bikes, CNC-machined 9000 series steel, and heat-treated and coated for superior strength and corrosion resistance.

Indian Motorcycle Celebrates the End of an Era of Flat Track Racing Dominance

As new AFT rules come into force for 2025, calling for production-only engines, it is the end of the road for Indian Motorcycle’s all-conquering race-only FTR750 engine.

Following the final round of the 2024 season (Lake Ozark Raceway, Missouri, on September 14 - which Mees won on the FTR750), new AFT rules for 2025 and beyond render the FTR750 ineligible. Long live the King!

Indian Motorcycle’s multi-championship-winning race bike leaves behind an unprecedented legacy, having secured seven SuperTwins titles and more than 100 race wins in 138 races - a remarkable achievement that is unlikely ever to be equaled.

Indian Motorcycle introduced the FTR750 as a flat track race machine designed to propel the brand back into professional racing in 2016 - following a 60-year hiatus. Now competing just its eighth season of competition, the FTR750 has established itself as the most dominant race bike in the sport’s history.

“Since 1901, racing has been core to the Indian Motorcycle brand DNA,” said Gary Gray, Vice President Racing and Service for Indian Motorcycle. “From our founders, Hendee and Hedstrom, competing in endurance races in the early 1900s, to the dominant Wrecking Crew of the late 1940s, Indian Motorcycle has been winning races.

 ‘75% win ratio’

“The FTR750 was the vehicle that reestablished Indian Motorcycle Racing and returned the brand to a place of competitive dominance.”

Since its debut, the FTR750 revived the storied tradition of the original Indian Wrecking Crew and revolutionized the landscape of flat track racing in doing so. It quickly earned a reputation as the most dominant machine in the AFT paddock.

The FTR750 has a 75%-win ratio, winning 104 of the 138 races. It has secured 292 total podiums at 132 races, earning a 96%-podium ratio. The FTR750 has a perfect championship record, winning all premier class titles since 2017.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to be on this journey with Indian Motorcycle since day one,” said reigning AFT SuperTwins Champion Jared Mees. “Racing the FTR750 has been an incredible experience, as I’ve never experienced a bike like this in all my years competing. We’ve had immense success over the past eight years, and it’s been a true honor to be a part of the Indian Wrecking Crew.”

Mees has been an instrumental part of the FTR750’s success. In addition to being Indian Motorcycle’s hero factory rider since 2017, Mees played an invaluable role in developing the FTR750 - providing expert-level feedback and insights to Indian Motorcycle engineers and S&S Cycle, who developed the FTR750’s chassis.

Piloting the FTR750, Mees has secured six championship titles and secured a new all-time record of ten career championships.

KUDOS! In addition to its factory efforts, Indian Motorcycle has been a great supporter of privateer teams, paying out more than $4,000,000 in privateer contingency - hurrah!

Unprecedented: Mees, Kopp Complete Bids for History at 2024 Progressive AFT Finale

Jared Mees (No. 1 Rogers Racing/SDI Racing/Indian Motorcycle FTR750) put the finishing touches on what may prove the final and most convincing argument in support of his claim as the greatest rider in the history of Progressive American Flat Track, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing: an unprecedented tenth Grand National Championship. Mees did exactly what he needed to - and then some - at the Lake Ozark Speedway Short Track (Round 16) to secure this crowning achievement as the 2024 season came to its conclusion with the inaugural running of the Parts Plus Lake Ozark Short Track presented by Arrowhead Brass and Arby's in Eldon, Missouri.

Mission AFT SuperTwins

Racing before a packed house with some 125,000 motorcycle enthusiasts flooding the area for the 18th Annual Lake of the Ozarks Bikefest, the Mission AFT SuperTwins Main Event was loaded with talented riders motivated to end their respective '24 campaigns on a high note.

The Indian Motorcycle hero grabbed the holeshot and battled it out over the race's opening stages with second-ranked Brandon Robinson (No. 44 Mission Roof Systems Indian FTR750), the only rider retaining even the slimmest mathematical chance of stealing away the #1 plate.

But by the contest's halfway point, Mees had shook free at the front and the remaining drama centered on whether Dallas Daniels (No. 32 Estenson Racing Yamaha MT-07 DT), running in ninth, could maintain his season-long podium streak.

He systematically worked his way forward while Robinson duked it out with Jarod Vanderkooi (No. 20 JMC Motorsports/Fairway Ford Ohio Indian FTR750) for second. Daniels eventually made his way up to their scrap, displacing Robinson and then Vanderkooi, all the while drawing shockingly near to Mees as the contest reached its final circulation.

Mees held on to finish the season - and potentially his career - on top in practically every sense, winning the season finale by 0.423 seconds over his young rival. Vanderkooi was third, with Robinson and Briar Bauman (No. 3 Rick Ware Racing/KTM/Parts Plus KTM 790 Duke) in fourth and fifth respectively.

Mees' résumé is far too extensive to list here in full, but in brief, the Lake Ozark Raceway Short Track updates his Grand National Championship victory tally to now include 2009, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024. He also ranks first or second in the career wins rankings for Half-Miles, Short Tracks, Miles and total GNC Main Event victories.

Mees, who elevated an already Hall-of-Fame-worthy career to stratospheric heights once he joined forces with Indian Motorcycle in 2017, sent the marque's remarkable FTR750 out in appropriate fashion this season. Tonight's championship secures the bike a perfect eight-for-eight record in Grand National Championship battles in what will go down as one of the most dominant eras the sport has ever witnessed from both man and machine.

In this final ever outing for the Indian FTR750 as the SuperTwins series goes production bikes only in 2025, there were six riders on board the FTR platform in the Top 10, with two on the KTM 790 Duke and one each on the Yamaha MT-07 and, in the perfect bookend that sees another legendary era come to an end, Sammy Halbert rode his personal Harley-Davidson XR750 to eighth spot.

Parts Unlimited AFT Singles presented by KICKER

As if Mees' record-breaking achievement wasn't enough to secure the '24 finale's place in the sport's annals, Kody Kopp (No. 1 Rick Ware Racing/Parts Plus KTM 450 SX-F) closed out the Parts Unlimited AFT Singles presented by KICKER season by securing the 450 cc equivalent.

Needing to merely avoid catastrophe, Kopp actually jumped out into the lead to open the decisive final contest. However, once Chase Saathoff (No. 88 JPG Motorsports Honda CRF450R) and then Trent Lowe (No. 48 American Honda/Mission Foods CRF450R) drove underneath him, Kopp seemed to re-evaluate his strategy, dropping down to fifth before settling back in.

With Saathoff powering away out front, Kopp wicked his pace back up, pouncing on Tom Drane (No. 59 Estenson Racing Yamaha YZ450F) and Evan Renshaw (No. 265 American Honda/Mission Foods CRF450R) in rapid succession to slot back into a podium position.

He then carried that momentum past Lowe and began the difficult task of closing the gap to Saathoff when a red flag flew as a result of a Travis Petton IV (No. 82 ECG Racing/A.M Ortega KTM 450 SX-F) fall with less than a minute remaining on the clock.

That changed the complexion of the race completely, transforming it into a wild bar-to-bar affair to the flag. Lowe led initially before Saathoff and Drane took their season-long rivalry to the front of the pack. Kopp was again shuffled back to fifth where he could have easily stayed to collect his third #1 plate, but instead he made a final push to claim third ahead of Renshaw and Lowe.

Meanwhile, the season's final victory went to Drane over Saathoff by 0.061 seconds, handing the Australian bragging rights for most wins on the season at seven in the process. Renshaw was fourth, Trent Lowe fifth.

Kopp ultimately took the crown with a grand total of 339 points to Drane's 324 and Saathoff's 318. And like Mees in the premier class, he now stands alone in the Parts Unlimited AFT Singles record books. Following the completion of his third successive title run, the Rick Ware Racing star now owns more championships (three) and more race victories (22) than anyone in the category's history, while also holding either sole possession or a share of first place all-time in terms of Short Track, Half-Mil, and single-season victories.

There were five Honda CRF450R riders in the Top 10, three on the KTM 450 SX-F (plus the Husqvarna badged FC 450), and Drane's Yamaha YZ450F taking the Round 16 class win.

Finally, Shasta L'Heureux (No. 67 Royal Enfield) completed the 2024 season for Royal Enfield's successful and popular Build. Train. Race. (BTR) program by claiming her first-career victory in the class with perpetual frontrunners Kenzie Luker (No. 17 Royal Enfield) and Taia Little (No. 11 Royal Enfield) rounding out the podium.

Next up: What, you want more? Yes, of course you do, and so do we - but we'll all have to wait for Daytona in March 2025 for the annual kick-off of the new season.
