Spectro Oils of America

‘Heavy Duty’ V-twin oils

Celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, Spectro Oils of America was founded in 1966 by Robert H. Wehman and has remained family owned and operated in Connecticut ever since. Spectro was one of the pioneers in the 2-stroke motorcycle oils industry and has grown substantially over the years. “All products are batch blended in-house with precise attention to detail,” says company President Alexander L. Josefson.
“The Spectro philosophy is simple - use the best ingredients to produce unmatched product performance.” Since its start, the Spectro product line has reached far beyond the 2-stroke market, to include full-synthetic, semi-synthetic and petroleum lubricants for a wide range of applications, offering lubricants for nearly every niche of the powersports market – they are especially well known for their ‘Golden’ heavy duty 4-stroke oils blended specifically for the very particular demands and characteristics of air and air-liquid cooled V-twins.

Seen here, their ‘Heavy Duty Platinum’ full-synthetic is engineered specifically for Harley-Davidson high-performance engines and other high-output V-twin motors, using their proprietary G4 technology to “dramatically increase throttle response and horsepower.” Formulated with a special additive package to combat the high heat and stress characteristic of air-cooled V-twin engines, it exceeds all known OEM warranty requirements, including Harley-Davidson’s own requirements.

Developed specifically for Harley 6-speed transmissions, their ‘Heavy Duty Platinum’ full-synthetic transmission lubricant is said to provide smoother shifting, reduce fifth gear whine and eliminate clunks. Resistant to high loads and heat, special additives provide additional anti-wear protection, higher film strength between the gears, and reduce drag while extending gear life.

Also seen here, their ‘Heavy Duty’ primary chaincase oil is a sheer-stable petroleum formulation that is designed to withstand the punishment of high loads, and contains special polymers to provide “exceptional clutch engagement and temperature stability in Sportster and Big Twin applications.”
