Mees Edges Bauman in Spectacular Inaugural I-70 Half-Mile
Round 3, April 23

Jared Mees (No. 1 Indian Motorcycle/Progressive Insurance FTR750) added at long last to AFT race successes by taking the win at the inaugural I-70 Half-Mile presented by Indian Motorcycle of Kansas City at Odessa, Missouri.
Kansas City-area fans had waited 17 years to see the world’s greatest motorcycle dirt track racers do battle and were rewarded with an instant classic.

 

Mission SuperTwins presented by S&S Cycle
Briar Bauman (No. 3 Indian Motorcycle/Progressive Insurance FTR750) powered into the lead at the start, followed closely by JD Beach (No. 95 Estenson Racing Yamaha MT-07 DT). Mees didn’t waste any time dispatching Beach to prevent Bauman from getting away out front, and then used that momentum to rail his way into the lead and ultimately to a win that ties him with Chris Carr for most career premier-class victories.
Behind Bauman (second), Beach, who eventually finished fifth, was overhauled by Brandon Robinson (No. 44 Mission Roof Systems Indian FTR750) and Dallas Daniels (No. 32 Estenson Racing Yamaha MT-07 DT), who finished third and fourth respectively.
Bronson Bauman (No. 37 Latus Motors Racing Harley-Davidson XG750R) finished sixth, followed by Mission Production Twins Challenge entry Jesse Janisch (No. 33 Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson XG750R). Together the two ensured that a pair of Harley-Davidson XG750Rs would finish inside the top seven alongside the three Indians and two Yamahas ahead of them.

Mission Production Twins presented by Vance & Hines
Jesse Janisch (No. 33 Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson XG750R) took his Texas frustrations out on the field in the form of outright dominance of the evening’s Mission Production Twins presented by Vance & Hines. The Vance & Hines pilot stormed to the front off the line and effectively removed all doubt within a matter of laps.
Billy Ross (No. 109 Mission Foods/Roof Systems Kawasaki Ninja 650), Kolby Carlile (No. 36 KC36 Las Vegas Harley-Davidson XG750R) and Cole Zabala (No. 51 Memphis Shades/Corbin/Vinson Yamaha MT-07) traded punches in a scrap for second that ultimately did them no good at all with mechanical issues and crashes forcing Zabala into an eighth place finish, Carlile ninth and Ross 14th.
Title leaders Nick Armstrong (No. 60 Competitive Racing Frames/Lessley Brothers Yamaha MT-07) and Cory Texter (No. 1 G&G Racing/Yamaha Racing Yamaha MT-07) completed the podium in second and third, ahead of Jeremiah Duffy (No. 42 Sammy O Racing/Arai Helmets Kawasaki Ninja 650) fourth (0.087 seconds behind Texter) and Jordan Harris fifth (No. 77 Roy Built/S&J Coal Mine Kawasaki Ninja 650) another 0.319 seconds back.

Parts Unlimited AFT Singles presented by KICKER
Minutes before Mees won the SuperTwins class, Kody Kopp (No. 12 Red Bull KTM Factory Racing 450 SX-FFE) became the first repeat winner of the season when he took the checkered flag in the Parts Unlimited AFT Singles presented by KICKER Main Event.
Australian Max Whale (No. 18 Red Bull KTM Factory Racing 450 SX-FFE) took second from Morgen Mischler (No. 13 American Honda/Progressive Insurance CRF450R) in third, with Trevor Brunner (No. 21 Estenson Racing Yamaha YZ450F) in fourth ahead and James Ott (No. 19 MediaHT/G&G Racing KTM 450 SX-F) completing the top five.
Next up is the first Mile of the season with the Mission Red Mile presented by Indian Motorcycle of Lexington doubleheader on Memorial Day weekend at the Red Mile in Lexington, Kentucky, on May 28-29.

Financial and Operational Highlights

• First quarter sales were $1,957m, flat relative to last year.

Segment Highlights

Off-Road segment results were primarily driven by these factors:
Sales were driven by growth in snowmobiles, commercial & government and defense, as well as robust pricing actions on new and pre-sold orders. This growth was partially offset by lower ORV sales.
Parts, Garments and Accessories (PG&A) sales increased 8%.
Gross profit margin performance was primarily driven by supply chain constraints and higher input costs, partially offset by increased pricing and lower promotional costs.
Polaris North America ORV unit retail sales were down high-twenties percent. Estimated North America industry ORV unit retail sales were down high-teens percent. Polaris North America snowmobile unit retail sales for the 2021-2022 season ending March 31, 2022 were down approximately 15%, with the industry down mid-single digits percent.
On-Road segment results were primarily driven by these factors:
Sales were impacted by lower shipments driven by supply chain challenges, despite strong demand, pricing and record low dealer inventory levels. PG&A sales increased 19%.
Gross profit margin performance was driven primarily by favorable product mix and lower promotions costs, offsetting higher input costs driven by supply chain constraints.
North America unit retail sales for Indian Motorcycle were down approximately 30%. North America unit retail sales for the comparable motorcycle industry were down almost 10%.
Marine segment results were primarily driven by these factors:
Sales results were driven by favorable mix and pricing.
Gross profit margin performance was flat with increased pricing offset by higher input costs related to supply chain constraints.
Aftermarket segment results were primarily driven by these factors:
The 5% decrease in segment sales was driven by Transamerican Auto Parts sales, which decreased 9% from $193m to $175m in the first quarter of 2022. Powersports Aftermarket sales increased 16%.
Gross profit margin performance declined largely driven by supply chain challenges and inflationary pressures.

2022 Business Outlook
The company continues to expect 2022 sales to be in the range of $9,215m to $9,455m, an increase of 12% to 15% over 2021. The company continues to expect adjusted EPS to be in the range of $10.10 to $10.40 for the full year 2022, an increase of 11 to 14% from 2021.

Owned by Eric Hoyt, Jacksonville, Florida based 1st Impressions Race Team will field a four-rider assault on the Parts Unlimited AFT Singles championship in 2022. In its first two seasons of competition, 1st Impressions grew from a one-rider team to a two-rider outfit, scoring a pair of podium finishes and top-ten championship rankings along the way. A new-look four-rider roster will campaign its fleet of Honda CRF450Rs - spearheaded by two-time AFT race-winner Michael Inderbitzen, who will be flanked by the talented trio of Tyler Raggio, Justin Jones and Michael Lainhart. 27-year-old Inderbitzen has been a top-ten finisher since the very start of his ten-year Progressive AFT career, including two Production Twins race wins and multi-time Parts Unlimited AFT Singles podium finishes.

New Freedom, Pa. based HRP Racing (Henderson Race Products) has signed Illinois native Cole Zabala to compete in the Mission Production Twins presented by Vance & Hines class aboard Yamaha MT-07s in 2022. Memphis Shades and Corbin Motorcycle Saddles will function as co-title sponsors, with additional support from Vinson Road Boring. Nick Henderson will continue to oversee the team. The shared history in Progressive AFT of Memphis Shades, Corbin Seats and Mike Vinson (Vinson Road Boring) is beyond impressive. Memphis Shades was the long-time supporter of the late Babe DeMay's racing program, Corbin Motorcycle Saddles has fielded successful teams over the years fronted by the likes of Rich King, Joe Kopp and Kenny Coolbeth, and Vinson has been heavily involved in flat track racing since the 1970s. California based tools, cables and controls specialist Motion Pro, Inc. is continuing with its race contingency program for the 2022 AFT season. Bryan Smith has been added to the AFT Management Team in the newly created role of Director of Industry Relations. He'll support all aspects of the Competition department, including managing rider and team relationships, new rider evaluation, track prep, safety and rules development. Smith will also be available for the series to call on as an elite-caliber test rider, whether to fine-tune the rulebook or assess the viability of potential new venues. Smith was the 2016 GNC Champion and 2012 and 2013 GNC1 Twins Champion, winning 33 races during his career and is tied for eighth on the all-time win list.

G&G Racing has announced that its partnership with Yamaha Racing will continue for a seventh season. In just the most recent three seasons, with Cory Texter as pilot, G&G Racing/Yamaha Racing has claimed two AFT Production Twins championships and 14 victories among its 27 podium finishes. Including its previous success in the premier class with JD Beach, Mikey Rush and Chad Cose at the controls, the team has collected a combined 29 podiums, 36 top fives and 50 top tens during its six-year partnership with Yamaha.

Biltwell Inc. Hosts 2nd Annual Biltwell 100 Motorcycle Desert Race in Southern California

April 2 saw Temecula, California based parts and riding gear manufacturer Biltwell Inc. host its second annual Biltwell 100 motorcycle race at the Football Field Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) park 15 miles southeast of Ridgecrest, California.

The park is located on the westernmost edge of the Mojave Desert and has hosted off-road fun in California for decades. The Biltwell 100 pits men and women of all ages and skill levels aboard every kind of motorcycle you can imagine on a closed loop that offers a bit of everything: rocks, sand washes, whoops, high-speed service roads and cactuses. Depending on each rider's skill level and style of motorcycle, Biltwell 100 competitors run one to four laps on the 25-mile course.

This year over 270 men and women in 24 individual classes took the Biltwell 100 challenge. Race organizers tried hard to create classes for everyone and to include a wide range of motorcycles - everything from vintage Triumphs and late-model Ducati Scramblers to minibikes, modern motocross and ADV machines and Hooligan Sportsters. 

"The latter division was particularly stacked," says Biltwell co-founder Bill Bryant. "With nearly 20 novices and experts racing alongside each other, banging elbows on custom Harley desert sleds in the SoCal sun."
To help run the event, Biltwell 100 organizers commissioned desert-racing professionals DP4 to oversee course design, race management and scoring. This allowed Biltwell staff and volunteers to focus on what they do best: free camping, big prizes and good fun. After closing the course an hour before sundown, 1,500 campers and spectators joined racers, organizers and volunteers for an impressive trophy presentation for podium finishers. After the accolades, people partied in the desert just like they've done at Biltwell events for 15 years.

Industry First "Stand-Alone" Fuel Injection System

Designed by electrical guru Jeff Zielinski and the team at NAMZ Custom Cycle Products in association with Thundermax and Dakota Digital, this fuel injection system "allows anyone with an OEM or aftermarket Twin Cam motor and (throttle-by-wire) throttle body to run a Thundermax EFI system on any custom build," according to Jeff.

"To get all of the features of a Thundermax wide-band and self-tuning EFI system, along with a NAMZ 100% plug-n-play wiring harness and exclusive twist grip assembly, is a huge step forward for dealers and custom-built bikes. This kit will offer a speedometer data wire for use with any electronic speedometer and the use of a Sportster or Big Twin fuel pump while providing a ground switched, 'low fuel' output wire for an LED or gauge of your choice."
All the components are made in the USA and the product is slated for release around May/June 2022.
This is a stand-alone fuel injection/engine management kit only. The lighting and switching functions of the bike wiring is not included. NAMZ does offer complete wiring harnesses in three different configurations - the NAMZ NCBH-01-A is the most robust with self-canceling turn signals, a combined run and turn signal front wiring option, and combined run and brake wiring functions on the rear (RED) turn signals.
The second, (NCBH-01-B) is less fully featured as it is intended for amber front and rear turn signals ONLY, and the third (NCBH-01-C) is a "bare-bones" full bike harness without any turn signals but, like the rest, provides headlight, taillight, key switch and all other basic functions to run the motorcycle.

AMA Flat Track Grand Championship

AMA Flat Track Grand Championship Returns July 7-13

The AMA Flat Track Grand Championship is "already the most prestigious amateur flat track event in the country," according to the AMA, "but 2022 promises to be the best iteration of the event since its inception in the mid-1970s."

In a return for operating and promoting the event, the AMA will stage the Flat Track Grand Championship from 7-13 July at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds in Du Quoin, Ill., with modified class structures and new race and entertainment schedules to improve the multi-day program for riders and fans alike.
"This year's AMA Flat Track Grand Championship will be bigger and better than ever," said AMA Track Racing Manager Ken Saillant. "With four challenging racetracks, combined with the fastest amateur and youth flat track racers in the United States, it will be an epic week."
The week-long event will host different age groups across multiple racing classes, all of which will compete in the four dirt-track disciplines - Short Track, TT, Mile and Half-Mile.
Multiple AMA National No. 1 plates will be awarded at the conclusion of the event. Along with the class championships, the Nicky Hayden AMA Flat Track Horizon Award - given to the most promising amateur rider on the cusp of a professional career - will be one of the most coveted honors awarded at the event.
The Vet/Senior Racer of the Year and Youth Racer of the Year will also be determined at the event.

Valeo

Valeo reveals bargain electric powertrain

Valeo is one of the biggest automotive parts suppliers on the planet, so its decision to create a low-cost, compact, off-the-shelf powertrain for electric bikes could turn out to be a pivotal moment in the spread of battery-powered two-wheelers.
While previously focused on cars rather than bikes, Valeo is a giant by any standards with 187 production facilities in 33 countries, 63 R&D sites and more than 100,000 employees. What's more, its motorcycle powertrain design is based on mass-made components already being made for hybrid and electric cars, making for economies of scale that could radically slash prices, allowing small motorcycle brands around the world to grab a ready-made motor and transmission that's suitable for widely used 48-volt battery packs.

Valeo demonstrated its powertrain in a modified Super Soco TC Max, replacing the original Chinese 60-volt battery and 5 kW motor with its own 9.4 kW, air-cooled motor and a suitable 48-volt battery, upping performance to something close to a 125 cc petrol-powered bike.
Valeo already has a market share of more than 30% of the global market for 48-volt hybrids, and the air-cooled motorcycle motor is derived from a starter/generator that also provides an electric power boost for mild hybrid cars. The same unit is also in mass production as the power unit for the Citroen Ami electric city car.
For the motorcycle application, it's incorporated into a single-speed reduction transmission, in a package weighing less than 17 kg. With multiple motorcycle manufacturers converging on the idea of a 48-volt standard for swappable battery packs - such a standard has already been drawn out in Japan and a European consortium is hammering out similar specifications at the moment - the Valeo motor/transmission, with integrated control electronics, promises to be perfectly placed to capitalize on that.
While the petrol engines powering today's motorcycles are an integral part of their character, often used by brands to distinguish themselves from rivals, future electric models won't be able to use that tactic.
Riders aren't likely to notice or care about who made the whizzing electric motor driving their bikes, or to be able to distinguish one from another, opening the door to opportunities for a host of new brands, bolting off-the-shelf suspension, lighting, instruments and powertrains to their own frames and styling in a way that's likely to see the most significant shake-up in the motorcycle manufacturing status quo since the rise of the Japanese industry. Valeo might remain a name that goes under the radar, but its powertrain could be a driving force towards that revolution.

Which makes it sound like the Scott Wine era of wholesale acquisitions is well and truly over for Polaris.

With a strong focus on financial performance, the company highlighted its five-year financial targets of mid-single digit compound annual growth rate in sales, mid- to high-teens percentage EBITDA margin, return on invested capital in the mid-twenties percent, and double-digit percent compound annual growth rate in earnings per share.
Polaris reaffirmed its 2022 full-year guidance of total company sales of $9.2 to $9.5bn, up 12 to 15% compared to 2021, and adjusted earnings per share between $10.10 and $10.40, up 11 to 14% compared to last year.

Investcorp (the Bahrain Sovereign Investment fund/BIC), who bought Dainese from founder Lino Dainese in 2014 (for € 130m), has judged that the time is right to do what most private equity investors do with their acquisitions sooner or later - take the profit and "flip the asset." In a deal said to be worth some € 630m ($692m) including debt, the new owner is Washington D.C. headquartered private equity investor The Carlyle Group (CG.O). During its ownership, Investcorp says it more than doubled Dainese's sales to € 250m euro and expanded core earnings (EBITDA) at a double-digit rate annually. Lino Dainese is credited with many firsts, not least the back protector, knee sliders and the wearable air bag. He diversified his business by adding the legendary 1947 founded Italian AGV helmet brand in 2007.

Performance Brokerage Services (PBS) reports the sale of Four Corners H-D and Four Corners Powersports of Farmington, New Mexico, by owners Tom McCreery and Gary Almond to Joe Washburn and Pete Tabor. Originally founded in 1963 as Desert Sports, McCreery and Almond themselves acquired the businesses in 2002 and these days sell for H-D and Polaris from a state-of-the-art downtown Main Street purpose-built facility. Retirement beckons for the former owners - McCreery additionally recently sold his Salem, Or. dealership. Former telecomms professionals out of Denver, in 2015 Washburn and Tabor bought Fun Center Cycles - a motorcycle, off-road and PWC store. These days they have two such outlets in Colorado. Reflecting the ongoing 'churn' in the powersports industry, especially among H-D store owners, PBS has advised on the sale of over 250 dealerships of all kinds in the past five years - 72 in 2021 alone.

SEMA reports that U.S. Representative Bobby Rush (D-Ill.) has introduced the 'Right to Equitable and Professional Auto Industry Repair' Act (REPAIR Act). "This crucial Federal legislation is introduced to provide consumers rights to their vehicle's data and safeguard a free and fair repair market." The move is applauded by SEMA plus The Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA), Auto Care Association and CAR (Consumer Access to Repair) Coalition. "The legislation will ensure the preservation of consumer choice, a fair marketplace, and the continued safe operation of the nation's 288 million registered passenger and commercial motor vehicles, 70% of which are maintained by independent repair facilities." www.sema.org


Wally Brown Racing has confirmed the signing of James Rispoli for 2022 - WBR is to campaign a KTM 890 Duke in a limited schedule in the Mission Production Twins presented by Vance & Hines class. Rispoli earned the 2020 Mission Production Twins championship on the strength of seven wins and four runner-ups and returns to the class following a season competing in the premier Mission SuperTwins category. The New Hampshire native is a two-time AMA Pro roadracing national champion, a British Superbike vet, and a two-time AMA Bonneville Salt Flat Land Speed Record holder.

GOMR (Grumpy Old Men Racing) has signed Brandon Price to compete in the 2022 Mission SuperTwins presented by S&S Cycle class aboard an Indian FTR750. GOMR - which previously competed as BriggsAuto.com Racing - will continue to be overseen by Johnny and Sarah Goad, with mechanical assistance from Tom Draina and Caylee Goad; Russ and Illene Briggs will provide the resources to back the operation. GOMR will also field rising star Tyler Scott in the Parts Unlimited AFT Singles presented by KICKER class. Scott - the reigning MotoAmerica Junior Cup champion - will run a limited Progressive AFT schedule in conjunction with his roadracing efforts. Scott's dad, former professional flat track racer Mike Scott, will serve as his builder/tuner, with Davey Loikits rounding out the crew.

The 2017 Parts Unlimited AFT Singles presented by KICKER Champion Kolby Carlile is to compete on the H-D XG750R for the 2022 Mission Production Twins presented by Vance & Hines Championship under the KC36 banner with title sponsorship from Las Vegas Harley-Davidson. After claiming five career victories and a national title aboard 450 cc single-cylinder machinery, the New York native stepped up to twin-cylinder competition full time in 2019.

AFT has announced that veteran sportscaster Ralph Sheheen will join the "Voice of AFT" Scottie Deubler in the broadcast booth to provide in-depth coverage of the 2022 season. Deubler will be calling a 14th straight season for AFT, while Kristen Beat will provide key insights from the pits. Sheheen is one of the most recognized voices in US motorsports with more than three decades of nationally televised broadcasting experience. Riki Rachtman - master of mayhem in both the motorsports and music worlds - will return for a third consecutive season to provide additional color from the pits at select rounds.

"It's a Sportster" - Harley's New Baby

The second iteration of the 975T Revolution Max platform, Harley's new MY2022 ''Nightster'' model is rather more conventionally styled than the Sportster S, staying closer to the legacy XL look - perhaps with a hint of V-Rod thrown in for good measure.
Claimed to be starting a "new chapter" in the venerable H-D Sportster motorcycle story - one that started in 1957 with the original 55 ci, Model K derived Sportster - Harley is claiming a "leap forward in performance and design" compared to the prior (theoretically) lower-cost range of 883 and 1200 cc Sportsters that the company has now largely retired, "while remaining an accessible entry point to motorcycling and the brand.
"This all-new motorcycle combines a classic Sportster model silhouette with the on-demand performance of the new Revolution Max 975T powertrain and a host of contemporary electronic rider aids and features. The 2022 'Nightster' model redefines the Sportster motorcycle experience for a new generation of riders.

"The 'Nightster' is an instrument of expression and exploration, underpinned by performance," said Jochen Zeitz, Chairman, President and CEO of Harley-Davidson. "By building on the 65-year Sportster legacy, the 'Nightster' provides a canvas for creativity and personalization, offering the ultimate platform for customization and expression for new and existing riders."
The liquid-cooled, 60-degree 975 cc Revolution Max 'T' V-Twin is said to have a torque curve that "stays flat through the broad powerband - with engine performance designed to deliver strong acceleration and robust power through the mid-range. The length and shape of the intake velocity stacks, combined with the airbox volume, are tuned to maximize performance across the engine speed range. The profiles of dual overhead camshafts and variable valve timing phasing on the intake valves are designed to match the performance of this engine."
It is said to deliver 90 hp (67 kW) @ 7,500 rpm and 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm) peak torque @ 5,000 rpm from the 97 mm bore x 66 mm stroke, 12:1 compression ratio stock configuration, but we already know from the early Sportster S customs that are now starting to emerge regularly that there is tuning a plenty to be had.
"Hydraulic valve lash adjustment ensures quiet operation and eliminates the need for costly, complicated service procedures. Internal balancers help reduce engine vibration to enhance rider comfort and improve vehicle durability. The balancers are tuned to retain just enough vibration to make the motorcycle feel alive." In other words, it is confession time: yes, the old Sportster engine was noisy and vibrated like a sex toy.
"The 'Nightster' model pairs a nimble, lightweight chassis with a powerful engine tuned for strong mid-range performance, an ideal combination for navigating urban traffic and charging along curving backroads. Mid foot controls and a low-rise handlebar put the rider in a centered, comfortable posture on the bike. Unladen seat height is 27.8 inches. The low seat height combined with a narrow profile makes it possible for most riders to confidently place feet down flat at a stop.

 

"The Revolution Max 975T powertrain is the central, structural component of the 'Nightster' motorcycle chassis, which significantly reduces motorcycle weight and results in a very stiff chassis. The tail section structure is lightweight aluminum. The swingarm is formed of welded rectangular steel tubing and is an attachment point for the dual rear shock absorbers.
"Front suspension are 41 mm Showa Dual Bending Valve conventional forks designed to provide improved handling performance by keeping the tire in contact with the road surface. The rear suspension features dual outboard emulsion-technology shock absorbers with coil springs and a threaded collar for pre-load adjustment."
The 'Nightster' model is equipped with a suite of Harley-Davidson rider safety enhancements - "a collection of technologies designed to match motorcycle performance to available traction during acceleration, deceleration and braking. The systems are electronic and utilize the latest chassis control, electronic brake control and powertrain technology. Its three elements are Antilock Braking System (ABS), Traction Control System (TCS) and Drag-Torque Slip Control System (DSCS)." There are also selectable ride modes - Road, Sport and Rain.
All of which, to be fair, is a great step forward for the story of the venerable Sportster and for Harley's ability to compete in the customer expectation stakes a lot more convincingly than in the past. It also makes further sense of its positioning as "entry level" new production, but not "price-point" - now that Harley has successfully harnessed and rebuilt its used program as the base-line brand pathway.

Polaris has announced a 165,000 sq ft expansion to take its Wilmington, Ohio PG&A Distribution Center up to 465,000 sq ft; completion is slated for Spring 2023. Polaris reported a +13% growth in its global PG&A business in Q4 2021 with "growth in all categories and business segments." Total 2021 PG&A sales exceeded $1.5bn.

Founded in 1959, Elkhart, Indiana based Patrick Industries has completed its acquisition of Arizona based Rockford Corp. and its Rockford Fosgate audio products brand. A marine, recreational vehicle, domestic and industrial building commercial builder products manufacturer, Patrick says its stated aim is to acquire expansion opportunities and strategically grow its "presence in powersports and leisure lifestyle enthusiast aftermarkets."

Can-Am, Ski-Doo, Sea-Doo, Lynx and Rotax owner BRP has added to its Valcourt, Quebec headquarters R&D facilities with a new design studio at Sophia Antipolis in the South of France. Slated to officially open its doors in December 2022, BRP says it will "mark another important step towards developing and leveraging its design expertise worldwide." The focus will include sustainable mobility and leverage its geographical proximity to the "understanding of market dynamics" in Europe.

After a record-setting race career, Andrew Hines has taken a new role in a restructured Vance & Hines, Mission Foods, Suzuki NHRA PSM Team. With Angelle Sampey and Eddie Krawiec set to ride the 4-valve Suzuki Hayabusas, the V&H effort will be headed up by no less than three former NHRA champions - Hines will step up to the role of full-time Crew Chief for the team.

SEMA has introduced a new program to make it possible for automotive aftermarket parts manufacturers to meet the legal requirement for emissions compliance under the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Tampering Policy. The program, called SEMA Certified-Emissions (SC-E), gives manufacturers the ability to verify that a product meets the EPA's "reasonable basis" criteria and is therefore legal for sale in 49 states. www.sema.org

Polaris has struck a deal with Qmerit, "a leader in green energy transformation with the largest nationwide network of certified electrical installers for EV charging, to provide a simple and convenient home charging installation service solution for Polaris's customers in USA," says Steve Menneto, President of Off-Road. "With the launch of our new RANGER XP Kinetic, customers want a turnkey solution for fast, accessible charging. Qmerit will be the go-to resource for Polaris, and our dealers, to support these customers' needs."

SEMA has applauded public-private efforts to save the Bonneville Salt Flats, with the installation of a new water well and weather and hydrologic equipment used for measuring salt growth conditions as part of the broader Restore Bonneville program. Federal and state funds were released last year to instal the monitoring equipment and help increase the volume of salt pumped onto the Bonneville Salt Flats this year to a total of up to 500,000 tons. The collaborative restoration effort has seen SEMA and the racing community join forces with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Utah Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Utah Geological Survey (UGS) and Intrepid Potash Inc. Originally in the 1960s, the racing venue was over 13 miles in length, but the course is now eight miles or less. According to a study by the BLM, the Salt Flats have also shrunk in size from 96,000 acres to about 30,000 acres.

Texas based Volcon ePowersports ("the first all-electric off-road powersports company") has already signed its 60th dealership in North America, having received 365 applications in just 160 days.

As part of the completion of its previously announced acquisition of Freedom Powersports, which represents 15 OEMs through 13 retail locations operated in Texas, Georgia and Alabama, RumbleOn has named Freedom founder and former CEO Kevin Lackey as the President of Retail for all Freedom locations, reporting to CEO Marshall Chesrown, with Daniel Arriaga reporting to Lackey as regional director of all Freedom retail locations. The Freedom acquisition completed on February 22nd.
